BOT 261 – Special Guest – Omar Bailey
At this year's Taste of Tennis event in Indian Wells, we had the honor and privilege of being introduced to Omar Bailey by our guy Nicholas Monroe. We quickly recognized that Omar is a one-of-a-kind entrepreneur that had a story we wanted to help tell. The tennis version... Omar is a footwear design entrepreneur who has worked with an impressive list of clients from both the sports and entertainment world. He is now the CEO and Co-Founder of FCTRY Lab in Los Angeles where he continues to cook up his unique brands of footwear products. In this interview we touch upon his journey, previous successes and inspirations, but we dive most deeply into his passion for tennis both as a spectator and a player. He was recently spotlighted on the Roku original series "Visionaries" with Keanu Reeves. We highly recommend watching his episode to learn the true depth of his artistry and accomplishments. A link to the show is below. We hope you enjoy our chat with Omar as much as we did! More to come... https://therokuchannel.roku.com/details/b78d9d30e1a58b1eaf71538766c6145c/visionaries-s1-e3-the-mind-of-omar-bailey-inspiration-from-the-game

BOT 241 – The Maurice Hunter Biopic
On January 1st, 2022, we were privileged to cover an annual Pete Brown Jr. Tennis Program event in Los Angeles called "The First." Named after the day of the year the event occurs; several categories of players compete for championships at Harvard Park. On this day, we met and interviewed Black tennis legend Maurice "Mo" Hunter and were enlightened by his tournament and tour experience. Unfortunately, later that year on October 17th, Maurice passed. Fast forward a couple of years and his sister Cherisse Wilson Goedhart is moving full steam ahead with a biopic on Maurice's life called "Paving the Road to Gold." The biopic will chronical Maurice's journey from poverty to prominence on the court. The film is set to begin production in 2025 and will highlight Maurice's determination, perseverance and talent on the tennis court. In this episode we get to chat with Cherisse and another producer on the film Janie Bradford (famed Motown songwriter). They share details on the motivation for and progress on this anticipated film. Listen in as we plan to follow this production closely and help share Maurice's impact and his message. As an update, in 2024 Maurice Hunter has been inducted into the 2024 ITF Hall of Fame, and as the 2024 Regional Legend in the Black Tennis Hall of Fame.
